Dakota uses this to describe the Kolinsky sable that is the very best natural
hair in the world for artist brushes. Particular regions of the world produce
superior hair and specific hair from the animal (male winter tails) are used in
the very finest brushes. Kolinsky sable has a very fine point, great color
carrying capacity and the ability to moderate the release of liquid from the
hair. The most important attribute is the strength and resilience to maintain
its shape and to form and hold a perfect point. The use of the word kolinsky in
labeling is not regulated and unfortunately it is used quite loosely in many
brush descriptions.
Describes other natural hairs with characteristics suitable for fine work
including sable (other than the very finest), squirrel, fitch, mongoose, badger
and ox.
