Mongoose is another of the natural hairs that works very well for oil paints. It is similar in working qualities to fitch hair. It has a stiffness between bristle and fine sable hair. This extra strength allows it to carry heavier body paint than a sable brush. Softer than bristle, it works well for fine detail painting, smoothing of brushstrokes and subtle blending. Mongoose hair is distinguished by it coloration of dark brown tips, a light middle band and dark roots. Mongoose is a very resilient hair with great working characteristics.
