Russian Black Sable is also known as Russian fitch hair. The Black Sable brushes fall directly between an Artist Chungking bristle and Kolinsky sable in performance. The Black Sable is a hair brush that has traits similar to a sable in its fluidity and control, but with increased stiffness. This extra stiffness gives this hair brush increased paint carrying capacity for a stroke similar to bristle. The softness of the brush reduces the evidence of brush strokes common to bristle brushes. The Black Sable brushes are excellent for delicate blending and smooth surfaces making them popular with portrait and realist painters.
Black Sable is a unique oil painting brush and is a great value, especially in the larger sizes. Burgundy handles with nickel-plated brass ferrules.
If you've been looking for an alternative (specifically in large sizes) to expensive red sable oil brushes, try the Black Sable - you will be pleasantly surprised! All shapes are available up to size 30 except the double thick filbert.

Series 1640 ROUND
The tapered point and thick belly of the fitch hair used in the series 1640 round produces a brush with a sharp responsive point and great paint carrying capacity.

SERIES 1833 EXTRA THICK FILBERT BLENDER
This new Smooth Oil Blender is an extra thick filbert made from a blend of Russian Black Sable, Kolinsky Red Sable and Russian Blue Squirrel. The extra thick soft blend of hairs allows the smoothing out of brush strokes and paint layers to create a translucent glow in the tradition of the great masters.
