Bristle | Special Bristle
Hog bristle is the most common hair for oil painting brushes. It is long,
strong, resilient, flagged at the ends to hold paint and less expensive
than most hairs.
SABLE
The best of the pointed hairs for oils and most expensive. Very soft but
still highly resilient enabling them to pick up and spread even thick paint.
BLACK
SABLE
Also known as fitch or polecat. It is a pointed hair slightly stiffer or
stronger than sable with excellent paint carrying ability and very responsive.
MONGOOSE Very resilient hairs with great working characteristics with stiffness between bristle and fine sable hair. Mongoose hair is distinguished by it coloration of dark brown tips, a light middle band and dark roots.
BADGER
Conic shaped hair that is slightly thicker near the end and somewhat wavy
down the length of the hair. Traditionally used for blending and faux surfacing.
